QUERIDO is a chart-topping artist and composer whose slick synth-pop soundscapes both move and groove you. Less thinking and more feeling is his musical modus operandi, his music coaxing you to indulge in neon-lit nostalgia. 

His 2019 debut, “For Tonight” (featuring Amy May Roux), raked in hundreds of thousands of streams, making a comfortable home for itself on over 2500 playlists, including Spotify’s editorial “Comeback Pop” playlist, sitting pretty between global retro-pop sensations Dua Lipa, The Weekend, and Chromatics, amongst others.

After a two-year-long hiatus, QUERIDO makes his comeback with a disco fantasy-fuelled banger, “Gemini” (featuring synth-pop songstress Sulene), which accompanies the promise of an upcoming 5-track EP that further explores his synth-pop stylings. 

But music is hardly a side-hustle for him, and QUERIDO is but one of a number of pseudonyms that have kept the artist (real name: Chris Querido) creatively occupied, ZYO and Sonar Studios representing two of his additional endeavours. 

As the producer behind the enigmatic artist, ZYO, he expresses his deep connection, as an African, to the rhythms and stories of his continent with a sound and style he’s aptly dubbed Afrofuturism. 

With Sonar Studios — originally launched in 2008 as an umbrella brand for his freelance work, later finding its roots in Woodstock, Cape Town in 2015 — an internationally acclaimed production house, he has produced multi award-winning film and television work recognised at Cannes Film Festival, D&AD (The Global Association for Creative Advertising & Design), and The Loeries. 

Prior to the launch of his Sonar Studios, Querido’s 7-year stint in London saw him working, as a permanent fixture, on the UK-based iTunes Festival, where he recorded some of the greatest musical legends of all time, such as Sir Paul McCartney, Amy Winehouse, Imogen Heap, and David Guetta, to name a few. 

For QUERIDO, life is a compilation of movies, for which he’s created any and every sort of soundtrack.
